The Birth Control Pill and Informed Choice

Choosing the best method of birth control is a very personal matter. As with all things related to pregnancy (and the prevention of), childbirth and parenting, I hope all make an informed choice after educating themselves and thinking over their convictions. I used hormonal birth control for a time before I learned how it worked. For my husband and I, because we believe that life begins at conception, hormonal birth control is not an option for us. We have been successfully using the Fertility Awareness Method (FAM) as our form of birth control for almost 4 years. If you would like more info on FAM, I recommend the book, Taking Charge of Your Fertility. Not only is FAM great for preventing pregnancy, but it is also great for helping to achieve pregnancy.

Thank you for posting this, Laura! Before I fully understood the pill, I used if for a few years. Since, I've often wondered if there might have been another son or daughter that I am missing. :(
It is frustrating that women are so misinformed. When I talk to other women about the pill, IUD, or other hormonal methods, they get this blank look on their faces. There's a lot of educating to be done, no?

There is a lot of education to be done - and it is such a touchy subject dealing with the different perceptions of when life begins.
It's all about being informed!

Thanks for this post. I have had the hardest time with hormonal birth control. My body seems to react very violently to it. Thanks for the book suggestion!
